Is cruising affordable and a good vacation value?
Cruising is the best vacation value! There are cruise vacations to suit every budget. Your cruise fare includes your accommodations, on board activities and entertainment, and most meals. (Typically, your only extra expenses will be drinks, specialty restaurants, optional shore excursions and personal services such as massages and spa treatments.) You'll know what your vacation will cost before you go.
How long are cruises?
As long or short as you want. Cruise lines offer itineraries that range from one day to more than three months.
Where can I go?
Wherever you want! Cruises visit over 500 ports worldwide and practically every destination accessible by water. You can embark on your cruise vacation from a wide variety of ports and exotic locations around the globe. The only hard part about it is picking where you want to go!
Are all ship similar?
Far from it! Cruise ships range from intimate and yacht-like to vessels stretching longer that three football fields. You can sail with fewer than 100 fellow guest or more that 5000. Enjoy atmospheres ranging from casual to formal, contemporary to classic resort-style cruise, or immerse yourself in the culture of a destination on a special interest cruise.
What is an air / sea package?
An air/sea vacation package includes, free or reduced-cost airfare to and from the ship's port of embarkation or disembarkation, along with your cruise fare. These convenient money-saving options are available from most major North American cities and include ground transfers between the airport and the ship as well as baggage handling.
Do I need a passport?
We strongly recommend that all travelers apply for or renew their passport as soon as possible. Government regulations are continually being modified and it is best to be prepared. Besides a passport grants you unlimited cruise vacation options around the world!
Will I get sea sick?
Rarely, popular cruise itineraries ply some of the calmest waters in the world. In addition, stabilizers on modern ships, availability of advance weather information, and development of effective preventative medications have, for the most part, reduced or eliminated the incidence of motion discomfort.
Can I extend my cruise vacation?
Absolutely, and we highly recommend it! Cruise lines usually offer special pre- and post- cruise vacation packages that allow you to extend your vacation in either direction. Or we can work together to arrange a package that is just for you.
Are there educational programs on board?
Yes! Cruise ships now have many onboard programs from enrichment programs hosted by distinguished guest speakers, lectures highlighting the ports you will visit to in depth lectures ranging from art to strategic financial planning, or cooking classes’ paired with wine lectures and tastings.
What is there to do at night?
When the stars come out, a cruise ship turns on! There is some much to choose from, including; dancing, live entertainment, nightclubs and lounges, feature films, and parties with all your new friends. Most ships also have shopping and casinos.
Can we take the kids?
Yes! More and more cruise lines are enhancing their children’s programs and activities. Trained youth counselors will help keep them safe, busy and entertained. Most ships offer different types of age-appropriate programs suitable for toddlers to teens. Over one million youngsters cruise each year and continue to each and every year. If your children enjoy swimming, sports, games, movies, and the adventure of fun places, then they will love cruising.
Is cruise ship dining as outstanding as they say?
Everything you’ve heard about cruise ship food is true. At each meal, you’ll find a varied selection of appetizers, salads, soups, vegetables, entrees and deserts, and each day the selection will be different. They also offer plenty of chooses including vegetarian and health conscious selections. And best of all you will not see a price; most meals are included with the exception of some specialty restaurants.
What about tipping?
Tipping is a matter of individual preference. A general rule of thumb is to plain about between $9.75 and $12.00 per person per day for your cabin steward, dining room waiter, and busboy. Other ship-board personnel can be tipped for special services at your discretion.
Are there smoking areas?
Most every ship has smoking and non-smoking areas on board. Most dining areas are now totally non-smoking, be sure to check with your maitre d’ about any concerns you many have about the smoking policy in that dining room.
